IFS

Insight Counseling & Wellness Center offers a range of psychotherapy services. One of our areas of specialty is Internal Family Systems (IFS).

What is IFS?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a form of psychotherapy developed by Richard C. Schwartz in the 1980s. It is based on the idea that individuals are made up of many different parts, or sub-personalities, which can often be in conflict with each other. IFS helps individuals understand and manage these different parts of themselves in order to create a more harmonious and integrated internal experience. It is a holistic approach to healing and growth that focuses on self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance.

Internal Family Systems is a powerfully transformative, evidence-based model of psychotherapy. We believe the mind is naturally multiple and that means that our thoughts, feelings, and sensations are referred to as "parts" of us. Our inner parts contain valuable qualities and our core Self knows how to heal the blocks and stuck energy in our system which allows us to return to feeling integrated and whole.

In IFS all parts are welcome. What this means is that we may work with your inner child, inner judge, inner teenager, inner rebel and other parts of you that have developed over time. some of these parts have gotten stuck holding challenging memories and life experiences and some parts are trying to help you feel better such as the perfectionist, over-eater, control freak, or inner critic. IFS gently guides you to develop compassion, curiosity, and connection to your parts.
