Feeling scared, hopeless or anxious?
Fear, hopelessness and anxiety are common experiences in the United St ates right now.
According to the HeartMath Institute, “When our light dims due to the internal or external turmoil that drains us, coherent love is what can refuel and lift us.”
Watch the video below for your own moment of peace and hope. And, be prepared that a skeptical part of yourself might arise as you watch. Notice If there’s a little voice in your head that says, “Yeah, right, this all seems a bit too good to be true.” Yes, HeartMath is a relatively new field, and
there is research
to suggest that in addition to being a pump that sustains life, it is also an access point to a source of wisdom and intelligence that we can call upon to live our lives with more balance, greater creativity and enhanced intuitive capacities.
After you watch the video, we’ll explore a technique for keeping that coherent love present in your everyday life–even in turbulent times.
That was great, right? But how do you create this magic of coherent love?
It starts with the breath. Find a comfortable, seated position with your back straight. Inhale for a count of four seconds, then exhale for four seconds Repeat, extending your inhales and exhales to five seconds. Then extend further to six seconds.
Focus your attention in the area of your heart. Imagine your breath is flowing in and out of your heart or chest area, breathing a little slower and deeper than usual. Then, make a sincere attempt to experience a feeling such as appreciation or care for someone or something in your life. (Credit:

Doing this practice regularly will help you feel better–lowering the negative feelings you might experience.
But, heart coherence is powerful in that it helps us do better than just feel better personally. If practiced regularly by couples, families, communities or other groups, it can actually help us collectively make a leap to a more cooperative and peaceful way of being. Changing our families and communities on this level can help us create a more compassionate and understanding society. And that would help us all experience less fear and anxiety–a much needed way forward for all of us right now.
